Sometimes people feel like after their website is set up, they can just walk away and let it do its thing. Especially if it’s been a lengthy process, you might just want to ignore it for a while. Don’t. If it’s a wordpress site, there are updates that need to be done regularly, if it’s not, your coding will need to be updated from time to time. Links to other websites sometimes break, email addresses change, information needs to be updated, outdated information needs to be removed…
Here’s how to do it:
- Go to your website and click on EVERYTHING. If a link, button or graphic doesn’t work, make a note.
- Read all of the content (not old blog posts, though), make note of what needs to be updated and where it is. If a whole page needs to be rewritten you can highlight the text, paste it into a Word document and make any edits you need to.
- Try out any forms on your site. Even if it means putting through a purchase. The money will just come back around to you, so all you’re really paying is the transaction fee. Make note of anything that doesn’t work right or any notices or confirmation emails that could be improved.
- Gather up all of your notes and go make the changes!… or send it all over to your web designer and have her do it for you. 🙂
Make this part of your daylight savings routine: change the clocks, check the batteries in your smoke detectors and check through your website.
